2005-06 All-NCHA Men's team
St. Norbert's Jones leads 14-member All-NCHA men's team
Menomonie, Wis. (February 23, 2006) Fourteen players, including three that repeated from last year's first team, were named to the 2005-06 All-NCHA men's team.
St. Norbert goalie Kyle Jones leads the way, making his second consecutive appearance on the team. Jones, a sophomore who posted a 10-1-2 record in the NCHA with a 1.14 goals against average in league games-only, was named the NCHA player of the year. Jones set NCHA single season records for most shutouts (5) and fewest goals allowed (19).
St. Norbert's Andrew Derton and UW-Stout Mike Kautz, both defensemen, repeated to the all-league team. Derton scored four goals and 11 assists and also had four power play goals. Kautz had four league goals, three power play goals, and three assists. Joining Derton and Kautz were UW-Stevens Point's James Jernberg, UW-Superior's Derek Miller, an honorable mention choice last season, UW-River Falls' Mike Salmela and St. Norbert's Sheldon Wing.
UW-River Fallsí AJ Bucchino was named as a goalie, after a 6-3-1 league record with a 2.29 GAA.
St. Norbert's Connor Hughes led six newcomers to the team as forwards. Hughes was an honorable mention choice last season and the only senior among the six forwards that were predominately underclassmen. St. Norbert's Andy Cote, UW-River Falls' Tyler Dahl and Derek Hansberry, and UW-Stevens Point's Sean Fish joined Hughes. Dahl is a sophomore and Cote, Hansberry and Fish are all freshmen.
St. Norbert coach Tim Coghlin was named the NCHA coach of the year for the fourth time after leading the Green Knights to their fifth consecutive NCHA title this season. UW-River Fallsí Mike Salmela, a biology major, earned the NCHA scholar-athlete award.
