Brian Monahan is in his fifth year as Sports Information
Director for the NCHA, having previously worked in the Lake Forest
College sports information department. Monahan is in charge of the
league web site, all media relations and promotion, as well as
league statistics, player of the week selection, polls and
all-conference awards.
Monahan also works as a field producer for ESPN on Monday Night
Football, managing sideline reports and overseeing logistics during
the NFL season. He previously was a sports producer at KSTP-TV in
St. Paul (2003-05) and an operations producer for the Minesota
Twins regional sports network Victory Sports (2002). In 2001 he
worked as play-by-play announcer and traveling secretary with the
Mankato Moondogs of the Northwoods League, a collegiate summer
baseball league. After participating in hockey briefly as a
goaltender at Lake Forest, Monahan became known as "The Voice of
the Foresters," a nickname derived from his frequent public address
announcing and radio play-by-play.
Hockey has always been a big part of Monahan's life, participating
in many capacities. Growing up in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, he
attended St. Thomas Academy and played four years of hockey - which
included a trip to the 1999 state tournament. Monahan currently
works as an on-ice official for the Minnesota State High School
League and the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Monahan resides in St. Paul and is married to Katy Monahan
(Rollwagen), the career hockey points leader at the College of St.
Benedict.
