Men's Player of the Week: UWRF's Lewan

SAINT PAUL (December 6, 2011) -- UW-River Falls goalie Scott Lewan (Westland, Mich. / Alberni Valley, BCHL) has been selected Player of the Week in the NCHA Men's Conference.  Lewan backstopped the Falcons to a road sweep at then #10 UW-Superior last weekend, surrendering just two goals.

In a 4-1 win last Friday, Lewan stopped 24 of 25 shots.  The Yellowjackets were stymied on all five of their power play opportunities.

Lewan was even busier on Saturday night, turning away 29 of 30 UW-Superior shots.  He needed every one of those saves as UW-River Falls held on to win by the slimmest of margins, 2-1.  He made 12 saves in the second period and didn't allow a goal on either of the 'Jackets two power plays.

On the season Lewan, a sophomore,  is third in conference goals against average (2.15) and save percentage (.931).  He leads the NCHA with four conference victories.

Around the Rinks ...

High-Scoring Affair: St. Scholastica  defeated UW-Stout last Friday night 8-6 in Duluth, the highest combined goal total for two teams in one game since January 15 of this same calendar year.  UW-Superior beat UW-Stout by the same score.  These two games are the highest scoring games since 2007 (at least).  There have been three games with 12 goals in that time span.

Dawes Cashes In: In the series between the Saints and Blue Devils, CSS forward Jeremy Dawes posted six points, including four in the Friday night goal-fest.  He had a goal and three assists in the 8-6 final, then scored once and assisted once in the 3-3 tie the following night.

Heck of a Game: UW-Stevens Point forward Kyle Heck scored both Pointer goals in a big home victory over UW-Eau Claire.  The game-winner came late, at 17:16 of the third period.
