UW-Stout's Sam Carr Earns Weekly Award
SAINT PAUL (January 10, 2012) -- Junior forward / defenseman Sam Carr (Roseau, Min.. / Roseau / Alexandria, NAHL) of UW-Stout has been selected Player of the Week in the NCHA Men's Conference for the week ending January 9. Carr led all players in the NCHA last weekend with four points in two games.
On Friday night Carr notched three crucial assists in a 5-2 comeback victory over Bethel. With the Blue Devils trailing 2-1 past the midway point of the hockey game, Carr proceeded to assist on three of what would be four unanswered goals. The helpers came on two power play goals and a short-handed goal.
The following night Carr put himself on the score sheet again, this time by scoring the first goal of the game against Hamline. The goal came at 8:16 of the first period and it sparked two more first period goals in building a 3-0 lead. The lead lasted into the opening minutes of the third period in a game Hamline would eventually swipe from UW-Stout 7-5 with an empty-net goal.

Meo Provides Punch: UW-Stevens Point forward Johnny Meo scored both Pointer goals last Saturday in a 2-1 win at St. Olaf. Meo's first goal came short-handed while the game-winner was scored with just 5:27 left in regulation. The goals were Meo's second and third of the season.
River Racks 2 More: UW-River Falls posted two more victories last weekend with a 3-0 win at St. John's and 3-1 win at Concordia-Moorhead. Freshman defenseman George Malliaras had two assists against the Johnnies and a goal against the Cobbers. The Falcons moved to number four in the national rankings and are now 10-0-0 when leading their opponent after two periods.
