League Leader Corcoran Takes Weekly Award

SAINT PAUL (January 17, 2012) – St. Scholastica junior forward Brett Corcoran (Parksville, B.C / Ballenas Secondary / Trail Smoke, BCHL) has been selected Player of the Week in the NCHA Men’s Conference for the week ending January 16.  Corcoran scored three goals and added three assists in three games last week for the Saints.

Corcoran’s week started off with a non-conference game at Northland, where he notched a goal and an assists in a 5-1 win over the LumberJacks.

In an important NCHA series last Friday-Saturday, Corcoran was on the score sheet for four of his teams’ seven goals as the Saints grabbed 3-of-4 points.  He assisted on a second period goal and again on the game-tying goal late in the third in a 3-3 tie last Friday.  In the Saturday night rematch, Corcoran gave his team the lead twice with goals in the first and second periods.  The Saints would grind out the 4-3 victory before loading the bus and heading back to Duluth. 

Corcoran currently leads the NCHA in conference scoring with 16 points and in goals with nine.  His 14 total goals rank second in the nation.  He has ten multi-point games this season in 17 game splayed for the Saints.

St. Norbert Sweeps, With Help Joanette: Forward Alain Joanette played a big role in the Green Knight’s sweep of UW-Superior last weekend.  The senior assisted on the game-winning goal on Friday, then scored once and assisted twice in a 5-2 win on Saturday.  His 3-point game Saturday was the 3rd time this year he has notched three points in a game.

 

Hopper’s Night: UW-Stout goalie Nick Hopper made 30 saves on 31 shots last Saturday, pacing the Blue Devils to a 2-1 win at UW-River Falls.  The teams split the series, showing once again the unparalleled parity in the NCHA.
