Ryd's Game-Winners Good for Weekly Award

SAINT PAUL (January 24, 2012) -- St. Norbert forward Johan Ryd (Sodertalje, Sweden) has been selected Player of the Week in the NCHA Men’s Conference for the week ending January 22.  Ryd, a senior, scored three goals last weekend for the Green Knights in a sweep against UW-Stout, including both game-winning goals.

In a 4-1 win last Friday night, Rdy scored at 12:15 and 17:26 of the second period.  The goals came as the Green Knights entered the period down 1-0 to the Blue Devils.  The second Rdy goal came on the power play and proved to be the game-winner.

In the Saturday series finale, Ryd struck at 12:06 of the third period, putting St. Norbert ahead 2-1 and completing a comeback after entering the period down 1-0.  It was the Green Knights’ fourth straight win, its longest winning streak of the season.

Ryd has now recorded 26 total points and 18 conference points on the year, good for first-place in the NCHA in both categories.  His three game-winning goals are tied for first in the NCHA, equaling his teammate Cody Keefer.  Ryd has tallied at least one goal or assist in 15 of his 19 games played this season.

Around the Rinks ...

Blugolds on the Move: With 3 points last weekend in a series with UW-Superior, UW-Eau Claire moved up into a tie for fourth place in the standings.  The Blugolds are tied with UW-Stevens Point, whom they play this Friday night.  The teams split a series earlier this year, meaning Friday’s game may determine the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Pointers Back in Action: After being idle last weekend, the Pointers will play two significant games with tie-break implications.  There’s the Friday tilt with UW-Eau Claire, and a win Saturday against UW-River Falls would even that season series.
