Clutch Goals Earn Perry Weekly Honors
SAINT PAUL (January 31, 2012) -- St. Norbert forward Joe Perry (Nanaimo, BC) has been selected Player of the Week in the NCHA Men’s Conference for the week ending January 30. Perry scored three goals as the Green Knights picked up two points last weekend.
In a 4-3 overtime loss last Friday to UW-River Falls, Perry put St. Norbert ahead 3-2 at 12:45 of the third period. What looked to be a game-winning goal was nullified when the Falcons scored with an extra attacker with 23 second left in regulation.
With his team looking to bounce back from the loss, Perry scored twice in a call-and-answer affair with visiting UW-Eau Claire. He gave the Green Knights a 2-1 lead late in the first with a power play goal and then pulled some late-game heroics of his own with the game-winning goal at 18:11 of the third. That goal would stand up as St. Norbert prevailed 5-4.
Perry’s three goals last weekend increased his season total to six. He now has 16 points in 16 games played and five multi-point games.

Pointers Turn: In the carousel that is the NCHA standings, last weekend featured UW-Stevens Point leaping up the ranks. The Pointers 4-point weekend puts them in 4th place and gives them control of a coveted home playoff series. The road to keeping that spot is no cake-walk, as three of their last four games are on the road.
Tie-Break Central: Tie-breakers are on the line
this weekend in most games, but three stand out as they are between
teams close to one another in the standings. Friday’s
UW-Stout at UW-Eau Claire is one; Saturday’s St. Norbert at
St. Scholastica and UW-Stevens Point at UW-Superior are the
others. The Yellowjackets own a 1-0-1 advantage on the
Pointers while the other two games feature teams that are tied
1-1-0.
