St. Scholastica’s Rose and Ploszaj Sweep
NCHA Men’s Hockey Weekly Honors

College of St. Scholastica freshman Carson Rose (F - Surrey, British Columbia) is the NCHA Men’s Offensive Player of the Week and freshman teammate Forbes Ploszaj (G - Gilbert, Ariz.) is the NCHA Men’s Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.


Rose played a key role in CSS’s 3-0 record the past seven days to claim NCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors. Rose scored a goal in all three outings last week and finished with five points (3G/2A). He started it out with a goal and an assist in victory over Bethel University on Tuesday and matched that in a 3-2 win over Concordia Wisconsin on Friday, including assisting the game-winner. He then scored the first goal in Saturday’s win over MSOE.

Ploszaj gives the Saints the weekly award sweep as the NCHA Defensive Player of the Week after earning a pair of victories in goal. He made 20 saves and allowed only one goal in a victory over Bethel University on Tuesday. He then made 32 saves in 3-2 victory over Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday. The 32 saves were the second-most this season and improved Ploszaj to 3-0-1 in his last four starts.


Dino Balsamo, Adrian
During Adrian’s 2-0 week vs NCHA competition (5-2 over Lake Forest, 6-1 over Aurora), Balsamo led the team with three goals and tied with five points. He posted a career-high four points on two goals and two assists against the Spartans. He also had a plus-4 rating.

Kurt Black, St. Norbert
Black had two goals in Friday’s 7-2 win over Marian and one goal in Saturday’s 6-0 win over Lawrence Saturday. His two goals against Marian both came on the power play.

Cory Dunn, Adrian
Dunn led the Adrian defensive corps with two goals, a plus-4 rating and six shots on goal during the Bulldogs’ 2-0 sweep of NCHA foes--5-2 over Lake Forest and 6-1 against Aurora. He also blocked three shots. He has been part of a defense that has allowed only five goals in the last four contests.

Nick Guiney, Concordia
Guiney assisted on each of the Falcons goals, all three coming in the second period, of a 3-2 win over Northland Saturday. The freshman finished the weekend with a +2 plus/minus.

Nick Lesage, St. Norbert
LeSage had an assist in Friday’s 7-2 win over Marian and then scored goals No. 3 and 4 in Saturday’s 6-0 win over Lawrence.

Nick Malvin, Concordia
Malvin went 1-1 for the week, posting a .914 save percentage and 53 total saves.

AJ Smith, Northland
Smith earned a shutout Friday vs MSOE, making 39 saves. Came in relief Saturday allowing just 1 goal on 15 shots.

Derek Thorogood, Marian
Thorogood recorded his second hat trick of the season to lead Marian past Finlandia. Thorogood also added an assist against No. 1 St. Norbert to close out a four-point weekend.

Hunter Vorva, Marian
Vorva won his 11th game of the season to help lead Marian to a convincing 6-0 shutout of Finlandia. Vorva totaled 33 saves on the weekend.
