Women's Player of the Week: UWRF's Batters
SAINT PAUL (January 24, 2012) – Sophomore forward Katie Batters (Champlin, Minn. / Champlin Park HS) has been named Player of the Week in the NCHA Women’s Conference for the week ending January 22. Batters recorded four points in three games last week, leading the Falcons to a 1-1-1 record.
In a matchup of nationally-ranked teams last Tuesday, Batters scored the Falcons lone goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to #7 Amherst. Batters scored an even-strength goal at 18:24 of the opening period. Amherst’s overtime goal was scored on a power play.
In the first game of a series with rival UW-Eau Claire last weekend, Batters tallied an assist on a third period goal that gave UW-River Falls a brief 3-2 lead. It also set off a wild finish to a 5-3 Falcon win that featured four goals in the final 3:02 on the clock.
Batters scoring touch transferred into the opening period the following day as she buried two goals. The second goal, her 12th of the year, proved to be the game-tying goal as the teams would finish 2-2. Both goals came at even strength and both were assisted by Darion Bruyere and Brook Story.
On the season Batters has 14 points in 14 NCHA games played. Her 17 total points rank fifth in the NCHA in total scoring.
