Weekly Winner: UW-Eau Claire's McMullen

SAINT PAUL (January 31, 2012) – Junior forward Casey McMullen (Minneapolis, Minn. / South / Minnesota Crunch) of UW-Eau Claire has been named Player of the Week in the NCHA Women’s Conference for the week ending January 30.  McMullen scored three of the Blugolds four goals last weekend in a win and tie against Concordia-Wisconsin.

Last Friday night McMullen was part of a two-goal second period that proved the difference in a 2-0 UW-Eau Claire victory.  Toni Simones scored at 5:45 and McMullen repeated the feat 17 seconds later.

On Saturday McMullen lit the lamp during the second period again, this time scoring twice.  With her team trailing 1-0, she scored an unassisted goal at 7:38.  And then at 14:03 she put the Blugolds up with a power play goal.  The 2-1 lead stood until early in the third, when the Falcons scored the equalizer that would send the game to an overtime tie.

The three goals on the weekend increased McMullen’s season goal total to eight.  She has 13 points in 21 games played on the year and has recorded at least a point in four of her last six games.

Around the Rinks ...

Batters Up: UW-River Falls’ Katie Batters stayed on her hot streak last weekend, notching five points in a weekend sweep of Marian.  Her point streak is at five games heading into a home series with Concordia-Wisconsin.

Resume Building: UW-Superior hosts #5 Gustavus tonight in a non-conference matchup.  The Gusties defeated the Yellowjackets 1-0 in overtime back on December 13th.
