Women's Weekly Release: CSS' Nina Waidacher takes player of the week honors
St. Scholastica freshman forward Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland) has been named Player of the Week in the NCHA Women's Conference, the league office announced today. Waidacher had points on six of her team's eight goals last weekend at UW-Eau Claire.
In a 4-3 win last Saturday, Waidacher assisted on three of the Saints goals, the most important coming on the game-winning goal at 15:08 of the third period. Her other assists came at 3:29 and 14:33 of the second period.
Waidacher continued her solid play the following afternoon in another 4-3 Saints victory. She assisted on a goal that made the score 2-1 in the first, then scored go-ahead goals in both the second and third periods. The game-winner came with just 32 seconds left in regulation time.
Waigand Lights the Lamp: Marian freshman forward Amanda Waigand has scored in all four Sabre games so far this year, including two multi-goal games. She had a hat trick in a 5-4 OT loss at Concordia-Wisconsin on November 1 and she owns seven of the ten total goals Marian has scored thus far. Waigand leads the all of Division III in total goals.
Ranked: UW-River Falls remained at #5 in the latest USCHO.com national rankings after sweeping Adrian last weekend. Adrian had 12 points in the poll, just one shy of an official ranking. Also receiving votes were UW-Superior and UW-Stevens Point. The Yellowjackets swept Lake Forest last weekend and the Pointers swept a home-and-home series with Marian.
