Marian’s Blanck and St. Scholastica’s Steeves
Pick Up NCHA Men’s Hockey Weekly Honors
Marian University junior Conner Blanck (F - Fond du Lac, Wis.) is the NCHA Men’s Offensive Player of the Week and College of St. Scholastica junior Zane Steeves (G - Red Deer, Alberta) is the NCHA Men’s Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

Blanck is the NCHA Offensive Player of the Week after helping his team to a victory in a game between nationally-ranked opponents. Blanck posted three assists to help #15/#13 Marian pick up a thrilling 4-3 victory over #11/#10 St. Scholastica in the opening game of the UW-Superior Showdown Saturday. Blanck helped open the scoring in the second period and then broke a 1-1 deadlock with his second helper. His third made it 3-1 just 2:52 into the third as the Sabres picked up the quality win.
Steeves is the NCHA Defensive Player of the Week after making a great first impression on the season. In his first start of the campaign at the UW-Superior Showdown Sunday, Steeves made a career-high 44 saves to help the Saints stop a two-game losing skid in a 3-2 victory over the Yellowjackets. He made an amazing 21 of those saves in a scoreless opening period.
2018-19 NCHA WEEKLY TOP PERFORMERS
Evan Kearns, MSOE
Kearns scored two goals against Babson, which is receiving votes in both national polls. His first goal was equalizer and second was the go-ahead score in tough 4-3 loss.
Kyle Star, St. Scholastica
In Sunday’s victory at UW-Superior, Star scored the team’s first goal and then added the eventual game-winner in a 3-2 victory. That was his first collegiate multi-goal game.
Hunter Vorva, Marian
Vorva made 79 saves on the weekend with a .919 save percentage against a pair of nationally-ranked opponents. Vorva opened the weekend leading Marian past St. Scholastica in non-conference action with 37 saves and then followed that up with 42 saves against Trinity. His performance against the Bantams was the second time this year he made more than 40 saves.
